First work is site preparation and here a dozer is taking off the top soil. It is a Cat D6 owned by a local contractor.

Re: Building a new cattle barn
It is quite a lot of soil to mowe - app 20-30 cm's think and totally app. 1 hectar. It is planned to take the 175 hp dozer with 3,2 meter blade 4-5 days. Then we have to mowe a lot of gravel, but we have our own quarrel on the farm.

Re: Building a new cattle barn
This is the view on friday morning this week. The dozer had come app. half way.

This picture is taken from the "old" farmyard, on the back beside the slurry tank, and here you can see that we "mowe" the "new" farmyard a bit from the "old" because we have to many homesteds near our old stables and if we build more we maybe get complains. We also had hard to find any plain areas up on the "old" farmyard so it was more advantages to mowe down the hill.

The new cattle barn shall house further 25 cows and 120 heifers and young bulls.

Re: Building a new cattle barn
Thanks everybody!:-)

@TC; We do hope so, but we don't need everything ready until this season, we do only have half amount of calves compared to the place.

@jdeere; we have holes to fill up, for example there we shall take the gravel. We shall try to sell some, but as there are a lot of building projects in our area it is hard.

This morning the view from the old farm looked like this - not much left for the bulldozer.

Re: Building a new cattle barn
Today we fetched some material for the straw barn. We shall use old telegraph poles as legs and then gluelam beams to support the roof of steel plats with self supporting structure. Very simple and easy built concept.

Re: Building a new cattle barn
Unloading telegraph poles, or if I should be exact, old electrical wiring poles. It is quite easy to get them due to that the electrical companies put the cables in the ground after our big storms 2005 and 2007.

At the end of today the dozer had done the work with the top soil. At the end of the week they shall use a laser and level the plane where the transport areas shall be, then we shall start to put back gravel....

Re: Building a new cattle barn
That's about 65 x 195 (feet). Pretty big, but definitely not as big as all the dirt you're hauling out of there... what else am I missing?

How high are you going?

Keep up the pics & posts,
-Josh

Re: Building a new cattle barn
Josh,

There shall be a straw bale barn 60 x 12 meters too, and place to store silage bales, plus some extra space for storage, parking machines etc. I hope to get the drawings in jpg-format soon, if soo i shall publish them here.

Our Åkerman works well, but it is hard to keep it home. We have a deal with the old owner that he helps us drive when we take customer jobs, and there has been a lot of intrest.

A view of the building site. We have measured all heights and marked out the buildings.

When the excavator comes back after next weeks work we will start raise the support poles for the straw barn.
