Crossing of Angus, with Zebú (nelore) and Hereford.

Re: Cattle
Very interesting to see the breeds of cattle that you farm over there ;-)

Re: Cattle
Luciano, great looking cattle. The calves are fat enough and the cows are in good body condition. Hybrids are used in the US for the same reasons you use them but everybody wants to have some black in their animals. There is a slight premium for beef that has a certain amount of Angus in it. The hottest cross right now is Simmental/Angus.
Was that field seeded this spring? The grass is lush but the plants are spread out.
Thanks for sharing you photos. BTW that Charlois looks like he's checking out the hour-meter on your ATV.

Re: Cattle
Thank you TC and Charles for their comments.

Charles, the pasture that I have in this field is Oats and Azevém, they were not sowed this year, they were sowed in June of 2006. Plus some days and retreat the cattle of these fields, then the pastures, even if dispersed they ripen and the seeds fall to the soil, I plant soy in the summer in the system of direct planting, and like this next year the seeds that fell this year will be born and to create these pastures, then I don't need to sow, they are born spontaneously. and all of the years he/she repeats this cycle.

Well coming to FarmPhoto Charles

Re: Cattle
Luciano & Taz, Thanks for the nice welcome to FarmPhoto.

Luciano, thank you for going to the effort of translating a response to my question in English. Oats and soybeans... no wonder those cattle look great. Your pasture cycling system sounds great. You'll get a few years' relief form planting as those plants drop their seeds.

BTW I recently read of a guy feeding uncoated grass seed with his cattle's mineral. They then spread the seed and punch it into the ground with their hooves. Of course it had to be a special type of grass so it wouldn't be digested by the cow. I learn something new every day...
