MOUNTVIC 482174 1 Peat Moss Producer either
Peat Moss Producer
John Deere 7720.

I took the following photos at Fafard et Freres's yard in Quebec, Canada. They are peat moss producers.

Wished I could have taken better quality photos, but as you can see it was raining very hard. But I am somehow satisfied how the photos turned out, even in such bad conditions. (for taking photo)

In the background you can see an International Harvester 3388.

They had some nice equipment on their property.

Re: Peat Moss Producer
I am sure that there must be a name for this equipment.

I simply call it a peat moss harvester. It looks like this equipment was manufactured by Fabrication S.Houls, which is located a few miles from this location.

John Deere 7710.

Looks like the special dump trailers were manufactured by Machineries Lépine Inc. from Ste-Brigitte des Saults, Quebec, Canada.

Re: Peat Moss Producer
Tony, it´s very interesting to see those tractors with rear triples and front duals. It´s not very common. Do you know the reason why they configure the tractors like that?

Re: Peat Moss Producer
Victor: The reason why they have so much tires can maybe be explained with above picture. Peat is harvested on a dewatered (with ditches) bog or mire and they drive in the peat which is fairly smooth. There can be wet spots left, but mostly when you get stuck like above the driver has been careless.

Re: Peat Moss Producer
Thank you for answering Lennart.

Hendrick peat moss is a soil mixture very high in organic matter and is mainly used by gardeners, greenhouses and horticulturists.

Here is a definition of peat moos that I got from answers.com
1.Any of various mosses of the genus Sphagnum, growing in very wet places.
2.The partly carbonized remains of these plants, used as a mulch and plant food.

Most peat that are harvested in Sweden (I guess more then 90%) are used for heating, it is dried in the mires with different techniques then collected and burned it in big facilities witch heat up whole cities (don’t now any English name for it). I live between two of these mosses and they us to transport there equipment between them at night. I think this particular contractor has 6-9 Valtra T190s with triples ore duals, I think he only works with fuelpeat.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong…

Re: Peat Moss Producer
@Wilhelm; I think that peat used as soil improvement and peat litter is more common than just a few %, i saw figures of 55-60% energy peat and the rest mostly as soil improvement (mostly garden mould).

It is hard to get peat litter today, but it improves the straw bed function a lot.
