New Cotton picker
I saw that John Deere had a new cotton picker out and it has an on-board module builder on it. I dont raise cotton so i was just wondering what poeple think about this machine wether its better than the old way or not? It also looks considerably larger.

Re: New Cotton picker
I bet that an 'on-board module builder' works like a baler ;-)

Re: New Cotton picker
They're trying to compete with the Case cotton picker with the onboard module builder. Look's to me that they haven't got a hope. Two modules from the Case are the equivilent to one normal module so it makes no difference for transport. This looks like an oversize round baler which would lead to all sorts of transport and handling nightmares. They've been sleeping for too long. :-\

Re: New Cotton picker
you got a very good point there colin ! on the photo it looks like a masive machine. the case cotton pickers are a lot smaller and i bet that they are a lot cheaper. looks like a mission faled by john deere :-\

Re: New Cotton picker
These pickers are huge but so are the Case. The Deere modules do not require any special transport equipment. A standard module hauler can load and unload these round modules or they can be moved by a tractor with 3 pt mounted forks. They are too heavy for a loader. Deere has the advantage over Case because they can eject the module on the go and carry it to the turn row to unload. Also the modules are rapped in plastic so there is less loss, less moisture damage, and no need for tarps. The Deere modules do require the gins to add equipment to remove the rap.

Here is that Case IH picker. It only makes the large modules though.
