Einachser 493439 158 Same Iron stuck either
Same Iron stuck
When I came to the field with the Case, my boss asked me what I thought off the situation. I told him I thought I was lucky to have my camera with me:-D

Re: Same Iron stuck
We finally had to unhook the plough and put it aside with the FEL. Then we were able to free the Same.

Re: Same Iron stuck
Well all I will say is your boss is a game man working in that field in the first place :-)

He did a nice job of getting it bogged anyway by the looks of it :-P

Re: Same Iron stuck
Einachser, why your boss decided to plow that wet field? why he didn´t wait the field would be more dry?

Victor

Re: Same Iron stuck
I could understand if a teenager did this. But I am sure that your boss must be a grown man. But tell him to drink a cold beer and have a good laugh.

If the conditions do not improve, tell him to wait until the spring. What is he planning seed in this field? Maybe he should consider using a no-till planter/seeder. Although that might not be a good solution for this field, since I see traces of other tractors in this field. It had to be very wet at harvest as well.

Sometimes it's just best to wait, and to work wet soil doesn't improve the yield on the next crop.

Patience usually pays off.

Thanks for sharing the photos Einachser.

Re: Same Iron stuck
It wasn´t my boss who got the Same stuck, but a co-worker of mine.
My boss came to the field with the 724, sorry for being unclear on that:-[
But of course you are right, it probably would have been better to wait.
This field is going to be planted with corn again next spring.
The basic idea with plowing in autumn is that the clods will be broken down by the frost during winter, so you have a proper seedbed in spring, since it is difficult to achieve this with machines (needs two passes with a power harrow if soil moisture is just right. If not, it´s nearly impossible).
To our defense, it was only about a tenth of a hectare that was this wet, so we would be hesitant to leave a small spot like this to plow it in spring, especially since it might not look any better then.

Re: Same Iron stuck
It´s not bad.
It´s simple, compared to a Fendt Vario or a new John Deere, with the front-axle and cab-suspension it offers a comfortable ride, the cab is the best i´ve occupied untill now and I guess you can´t go much wrong with a Deutz-engine and a ZF-gearbox. With the orange paint job you can get them a few thousand €´s cheaper than with the green one;-)

Re: Same Iron stuck
Thank you for the reply Einachser.

Here in North America more and more farmers no longer use a plow and do a lot of no till seeding/planting or minimum tillage. Mainly to reduce input cost and to for soil conservation.I am assuming this wouldn't be a common practice in your part of Germany.

They get the same or even better yields and this with less input costs. Farmers over here and I guess everywhere in the world need to be very good business people to make money.

Re: Same Iron stuck
I can´t think of any farmer doing no-till around my home, no.
Some farmers are abandoning the plow in certain crop rotations but the vast majority is still plowing.
In this region there are almost only livestock farms, so maybe there is not as much thought given to cultivation than there is to herd management for example.
In other regions of germany, minimum tillage is a great deal more advanced.
I guess most farmers are deterred by the projected increased use of chemicals or the relatively small farms do not want to or can not afford new tillage and seeding equipement.

Of course you are right if you don´t have a sense for business you wont go far in farming today, although I guess the structural change is more advanced on your side of the pond.
However, things have been looking up for dairy and arable farmers the last few months(not so much for hog and poultry farmers).
