Project john deere 3020
John deere 3020 syncro range side console. Took this picture last summer. The problem with this tractor is oil leaking out at the load shaft. A mechanic changed the seals last summer, but damaged a small pin in the bottom of the rear end.
The following pictures show what i had to do, to replace the pin

Re: Project john deere 3020
At first i removed the rockshaft housing and the plate above the gearbox. This tractor has a half-synchronised gearbox, at the top shaft you can see the synchronisers

Re: Project john deere 3020
differntial
to replace the pin and block i had to complete remove the control arm at the right side of the diffential. I did not have any idee how to do this, so i asked on www.ytmag.com
A machanic from the usa told met to remove both final drives and the complete diffential. I was affraid for that already :-[

Right side of the tractor. those ameriacan tractors have three brake cilinders.
I removed the differential bearing cup of this side already

Re: Project john deere 3020
I Didn't know Deere used yellow paint for the inside of the cast iron pieces. Pretty freaky aspect of the yellow-green philosophy...

Do they still produce their cast iron in house?

Re: Project john deere 3020
finaly got the differential out of it:-)

The yellow paint if to protect the inside of the gearbox
The manheim build tractors are frame tractors, and those tractors have a lot of aluminium. The smal part of cast iron they use are bought from a specialized company.
The waterloo build tractors do have a lot more cast iron, but i dont know where it's made

Re: Project john deere 3020

Re: Project john deere 3020
@Victor, i never had any education for mechanic, it is just al little bit of experience, logical thinking, and not beeing affraid of parting out a tractor for example, and the most important part of all,i always have a can of liquid gasket in my toolbox:-) so i can put the tractor together again without have to wait for a new gasket. This is an old tractor, with old technologie, all very easy to understand how someting works,..althought i still dont understand why i had to part out the whole rear end for al little stupid pin:-\
We want to use the tractor for loader work. Maybe you've seen pictures of our jd3020 powrshift with a huge red farmhand loader, we want to put that loader on this tractor, so we can put the jd 237 corn picker on the powrshifter.

@jdeere, put on the rockshaft housing again should be done within 3 hours, but there are a lot of oil lines outside the transmission, main hydraulic presure, retour, lines for the diff lock, brakes, trailer brakes, and we want to put on a second scv on
