Bunch of bananas. That plastic has been impregnated with insecticide to protect them against insects. The holes are to allow air flow.

I took this photo from one of the pump stations. This is the "Estrella" (Star) valley.

Re: Bananas Plantation
The pumps send the water through these huge pipes and then it´s evacuated through the drainages.

Nice photos Victor!

How long before the banana trees produce any fruits?

Tony, thank you. A banana plant lasts apoximately 9 months to produce fruits.

Re: Bananas Plantation
Very interesting thread Victor, nice pictures.
Do you have any pictures of the seeds they use, where do the seeds come from, out of normal bananas or do they plant special "seed bananas" to produce the seeds.

thanks

Re: Bananas Plantation
Great pictures Victor. I visited a similar banana plantation in CR several years ago. The drainage channels through the deep andic (volcanic) soils were quite spectacular.

Re: Bananas Plantation
Excellent work Victor :-)

Very interesting as we dont have bananas here in Tas (not warm enough). I have seen them growing once before in Queensland (Northern Aust) & they are a very interesting crop. Of course, I LOVE to eat them (who doesnt) :-D

Am adding this thread to my favourites,

Regards,

Craig TC ;-)
