can anyone tell me anything they know about a v-8 903
cummins engine. Are they a good engine? Do they tend to
smoke a lot? Thank you for any replies
Re: 903 cummins engine
They have proved to be quite good in the Steigers. Fairly
gutless compared to the 855 and with a shorter life - in
proportion to the max revs. i.e it's the number of
revolutions which the engines do between rebuilds with one
important addition - it depends if the users topped up the
DCA level regularly. They smoke like all Cummins PT fuel
systems on start up, particularly if the injector stroke
needs setting or if they are worn. One would expect 10 - 12
thousand hours between rebuilds (porous liners excepted)
with the V8 , and 14 - 18 thousand hours (or more) for the

would, you recomend a 903 cummins that has been rebuild with
2 new
pistons, 2 new sleeves, 1 new head, and all new rods and
main bearings? thank you for the previous information
Re: 903 cummins engine
hmmm when overhauling engines, you have to do all cylinders
or none, i think.. If only one cylinder is overhauled, it's
a repaired engine, not an overhauled one..

pay for it as a non-overhauled engine, it's not worth the
price of a rebuilt.
