Anyone who can spell pomegranate deserves to win!

Believed to be native to Northern India and Iran, the
Pomegranate has a long history.
Cultivated since ancient times , it was mentioned in
Egyptian mythology, the Old Testament and reported in
Indonesia in the 1400s. Known by a number of names, the
fruit is called granada in Spanish, gangsalan in Indonesia,
limoni in Samoa and zakuro in Japanese.
It was first introduced in California by Spanish settlers in
1769. There are many varieties grown mostly in dryer areas
that range in color from white to dark red.
