big bee
This big black carpenter bee is about 4cm (1.5 inches) long.
They are not friendly!
I'm just glad it stayed still long enough to use the digital
zoom!

Ken,
You are right. Now, I see how much the photography job is
dangerous.:-D

Re: big bee
ha ha your right.
I retired as cameraman so not to get stung!
Once this type of bee stung my arm. It was swollen and
hurt for 3 days!

Re: big bee
Hi Kadee
Some people run away from the bees but they tend not to
bother people. They are called carpenter bees becasue they
will make big holes in wood to live in. It's very
uncomfortable to pick up a log and hear buzzing inside!

Re: big bee
Forgot to mention about the flowers,
they are a real pest! I'll ask our weed guy at the Univ.
what they are called but they spread terribly fast and shoot
roots out all over.Another pretty weed I'm afriad.

Re: big bee
Hi Ken,
I finally got a digital camera, a Kodak DX4530 and I must
say I really like it, especially the macro. I caught this
bumble bee this afternoon on our weeds in the back yard.

Re: big bee
Here is one on the catalpa tree flower, also taken this
afternoon (May 7, 2004). In the next picture I am about to
post, the bee will have just about disappeared in the
flower. It's so neat how nature works.
