Re: Commelina flower
sure is a beautiful color.
When you say important weed, is it becasue it fixes nitrogen
in the soil?
How big does the plant get and can it be used as a ground
cover?
Sorry for all the ?? Flavio. I'm always looking for ground
covers that I can grow between coffee trees but that dont
climb the trees!

take care

Re: Commelina flower
No, Commelina is important as weed because is very difficult
your control. You are lucky if have no Commelina in your
farm.

Re: Commelina flower
Ken,
I have a cover crop suggestion to fix nitrogen in your case.
In Brazil/Argentine/Paraguai is cultivated a tea tree called
"Erva-mate"
(Ilex paraguariensis) and at space rows has cultivated
prostrated peanut (or forrage peanut) - Arachis pintoy or
other, Arachis repens. It's excelent to fix nitrogen, is
prostrated and have a nice look. The use of this cover crop
is adoted of only most technical orchards.

Best regards,
Flavio

Re: Commelina flower
Hi Flavia,
I have a bag of the tea here now. It's really good.
Now all I have to do is find seeds to try!
I dont know if we have enough water for it but it is worth
trying for sure.
Thanks much for the suggestions
