Why 4wd?? In the States there are a lot of 2wd tractors,
because there a lot more pulled machines, and not much for
the hydraulic lift. When you have a pulled machine, its
doesn t matter if you have a 2wd or 4wd tractor, But a 2wd
is a lot cheaper than a 4wd

You get more traction with 4wd than 2wd, but on flat land,
you get more traction on a 2wd when you have duals. A 2wd
with duals have the same traction as a 4wd with single
wheels. And if you want to lift heavy equipment, you just
hang on some weights on the frame.

Man, that is a nice tractor. Im a deere and allis guy, but
id deffinately like runnin that tractor

yer u are right but with duals u can take thm off and u cant
take 4wd tyres off, 4wd machines reck the fields especially
if wet

On the other hand a tractor with duals is unhandy on the
road, they put a lot of stress on the rear axle, you can
only plough "on-land" and if you´d put duals on a 4wd
tractor you´d still have more traction.

youre right but in the us they plow not verry much (no
till)and the drive not such much on the road as we here in
europa and they have mostly trailed machinery and fore big
machinery the use the big 4wd articulated tractors

yer well i guess we are all right an there are good and bad
points to 4WD and 2WD tractors like here in england its
illegal to hav duels on the road so thats a bitch, but then
i think that 4Wd tractors rip up a wet field but some would
say it aint that bad if 4WD isnt engaged some others
would also say that 2WD front tyres sink in the ground with
a big engine and soft ground

So you have to put the duals on a trailer and put them on
the tractor when you´re at the field. In germany we can
drive on the road when the vehicle isn´t wider than 3 meters
(or 10 feet) but I don´t think a cop would stop you if you
where driving with 3,10m ;-)
About the small front wheels on 2wd tractors I always
wondered why they don´t put bigger ones on.
I once thought about putting old airplane tyres from a
manure tanker on the front axle of one of my uncle´s
tractors but he wouldn´t let me:-D

over here
and its a shame u didnt put those tyres on i would have
liked to see that picture!

Hey Johan, we have a Allis Chalmers D-17 and a WD 45, but
the WD is sittin out in the woods cause it dont run no more,
and a tree fell on it. Our D-17 has about 8,000 hours on it
and it dont look that nice but it runs perfect. When its
about 0 degrees Fairenhiet, you just have to choke it a
little bit and shell start right up

Is that D17 a diesel or gasoline? And what's wrong with the
WD45 that its not running?, is that a gas or diesel? We own
a WD45 gas from1953 and its a real good running tractor with
not any problem. The other tractor we owned is a 1962 D19
and that's a real great tractor to have and to drive it.

Hey Johan, both of our Allis's are gasolines. Im not sure
why we stopped usin our WD, but my grandpa parked it out in
our woods about 15 years ago, I guess it had some major
problems, but i think it still kinda ran when he parked it.
Here in Indiana, USA there are not many old Allis Chalmers
still around. There is a guy up by Fort Wayne who has about
every model of Allis's made before 1970. Most of them dont
run, but its pretty cool how many of them he has.
