The last of the great Caterpillar steel track ag crawlers,
the AG6. Powered by a 3306 motor with variable horsepower
that pumps out 240hp in fourth & fifth gears. The 3306 is
turbocharged & aftercooled; a solenoid moves a rack stop in
the governor allowing more fuel to be injected for increased
power in the higher gears. Steering controls are mounted on
the left console and swing with the seat. Sealed &
lubricated tracks are carried on a seven roller track frame
that gives the AG6 a smooth ride and great traction.
The tractor seen here has been working hard for a wheat
grower near Arlington, Oregon. :-D
Re: AG6
John. How old is this great maschine? Do you have a pic of
the cabin from inside? :-)

Greetings from Denmark

Re: AG6
Hello Bjarne! Can't tell you exactly how old in years;
had to be mid 1980's The hour meter has just over 9000hrs
on it.
Re: AG6
Another shot inside. ;-)
Re: AG6
A really nice machine, looks to be in great condition.
What kinds of attachments does it pull?

Re: AG6
Hello Mathiz! Greetings to Sweden. This AG6 is used in dry
land wheat production, so it tows chisel plows, cultivators
anhydrous applicators, grain drills and rod weeders. With
its power & traction, some of the implements used have a
large working width; I have seen them pulling rod weeders
with a 90 foot width. Attached is a shot of a 40 foot JD
rod with flex harrows behind pulled by a 98J D5; the
AG6 could easily pull two of these hitched together.
All the best from Oregon.
Re: AG6
John Are there still lots of track tractors in use or are
they being slowly replaced by the large 4WD tractors or do
they steep hillsides still require tracks?

Roy Chapin
Re: AG6
Yo Roy! Steel tracks were king here until the early 70's
when the big 4wd tractors took some of the market. The
Challenger's regained some of that share....easy of
transport coupled with good performance on the hills. The
hot tractor here in Wasco Co. now is the Quad Trac (see
attached) Still a lot of old steel track crawlers around;
a lot of them are second string now.
Re: AG6
A little closer. ;-)
