County 1004
O.K. County fans, time for some mid-week trivia.
Anyone who's thumbed thru the 3rd edition of County News
would probably have noticed the adorning the centre spread,
a 1004 belonging to Stevenage Plant Service Ltd. pulling a
pipe trailer equipped with a hydraulic drive
bogie.....O.K.....note the reg. no. - JAR 704G.....now look
at the post below this 1

Re: County 1004
if you've ever been to Ron Greet's you'll probably have seen
this 1 - JAR 704G.....its 'grown' a crane and is still alive
and kicking, or at least it was today.

Re: County 1004
That's a true County nearly 40years on still working and
still creating interest. Richard if you look at newsletter
number 13 you can see one of my 1474 reg FTW401T.

Re: County 1004
This 1 Chris.
Interestingly enough the pic above shows another 1474
ploughing with reg no. YCV 983T - surely YCV is a Cornish
prefix, is this another case of using 'any' pic to fill the
book, anyone know the history of this tractor?

Re: County 1004
Mike,
The basic chassis was the same, 1004, latterly the 1174/1184
only the cab being mounted up front with controls for gear
shift, clutch etc. by cables or rods giving the entire
transmission frame free to mount fifth-wheel couplings,
cranes, winches, slurry tankers or lime spreader butts.
I would think that the overall perception as an operator
must feel like the tractor is going to nose dive.

Re: County 1004
Yes Richard, that is a Cornish number I wonder if that's the
1474 that Luke Furze once owned down at Ashwater Devon? He
purchased it from a farm around the Holsworthy area, it
might have been let over the border.
My 1474 stands out because of those wheels.
Thanks for those photo's.
