how we make grass for the cows
This is one of our Farms in Pankrazberg/Zillertal/Tirol
Austria
I stood at the top of the slope when taking the photo at JUL
23 2002.
The folowing pictures show the Reform cutter, my father in
law and my brother in law.
We had to stand on the tips of the empty Heuschwanz (the big
fork monted on the Carraro) when driving up, that all 4
wheels stayed at the ground. With the weight of the grass it
is no problem.

Hi Christian,

i have been following your pictorials with interest. Your
situation is totally different from anything I have seen
before. It is quite fascinating. The scenery is
breath-taking.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: how we make grass for the cows
you have to watch the wheels and the ground, so you can
accelerate if the tractor starts slipping.
With the Hydro-Gearbox you can drive cm for cm, very
helpful.

Re: how we make grass for the cows
Thank you!

If I have time, I will make a Homepage about our situation
and farming, maybe in winter.
There are many farms like ours here in the alps, with even
greater scenery, I just need more time ;-)
I have made some DV-films about our work, but I had no time
to cut them, maybe I can extract some pictures. I still have
to borrow a digicam, i will buy my own in one or two months,
then I can make more pics.

Again pictures are very fascinating. Tell me what is the
elevation where you work at and how long of growing season
do you have to do this hay crop?

Re: how we make grass for the cows
We live at an elevation of 750m. The valley in the
background is 500m.
Growing season is from April until September, be can make
hay 3-times a year (May, June/july, August, approximately 6
weeks in between).
There are many farms in higher elevation, they can make hay
twice a year.
Yes, we have to be very careful and always take care, where,
how fast and in which direction we drive at these places. We
have to think first, which gear, Difflock or not, NEVER
forget to shift 4WD, check if the gearbox is shiftet well,
never brake when we begin slipping downhill, always keep
vehicle straight downhill and have the possibility to
accelerate, watch the wheels and the ground etc.
Maybe I should cut my videos and make a film ...
