FS Grain Elevator
Here is a picture I drew of an FS Grain Elevator it took me
Five days to draw, I probably would have got it done sooner
but I just worked on it for a half an hour each day after
school and work.

Great drawing. Does the FS stand for Farm Service elevator?

Re: FS Grain Elevator
Yes,
I'm pretty sure that's what FS stands for. The FS in my
town got ran out business by United Co-operative when I was
a little guy so I don't remember it too much.

Re: FS Grain Elevator
The reason for asking what FS stood for is that they are
Farm Service stores in Arkansas, but your picture gave me the
impression that it was located in the northern or midwestern
states

Re: FS Grain Elevator
yeah most of the FS elevators don't look like that anymore I
was just looking at some old pictures we had of the one
being built in town when my old man worked there and that
was around the 80's now everything is boarded up and just
used for grain storage, and to park spreaders and tanks in
winter.

Re: FS Grain Elevator
The FS at one time did stand for Farm Services-a centralized
farm cooperative owned by Growmark which was in turn owned
by Farm Buerau. Sometime in the 90's they changed from
being Farm Service to FS system. Some locations still
retain the farm service name but corporately they are known
as Growmark and FS inc. being the brand name. Growmark
orgionally operated in Iowa Illinois and Wisconsin and has
expanded to the old Countrymark system in Indiana, Ohio, and
Michigan in a joint venture with Land O Lakes. The FS
presence has slowly dwindled in Iowa due to the old Farmland
cooperatives having a larger prescence and now with Cenex
Harvest States. By the way, I like the pic of the
elevator.
