Is this the "Giant African Land Snail?
I found her in the black berries at our house in Ludowici,
GA, and showed her to my children, who were all handling
her, I included. We all were so excited about this big
beautiful snail.
When I was growing up in Germany, my sister and I would
always play with the snails. I was unaware of the danger I
put the kids and myself in.
My husband came home from work and the kids were telling him
about the exciting snail and that we let her go.
When my husband in turn told us about that this might be the
"Giant African Land Snail" and the danger of these snails. I
am very worried about my children now.

I send these pictures to Mr. Mike Evans, Division Director,
Plant Protection Division, Georgia Department of Agriculture
and he in turn send the pictures to Dr. David Robinson, a
snail expert at USDA. Mr. Mike Evans wrote back to me: "I
was very relieved to receive his identification that this
snail was NOT a Giant African Land Snail. This snail is
called the Rosy Wolf Snail (Euglandina rosea) a native
species that is not of agricultural or public health
concern." :-D
